Australia Part 2 Wine Tasting

Tasting this Friday and Saturday

On the Tasting Bar:

Kirkton Estate Semillon ‘The William’
2022 Hunter Valley, New South Wales.
The original Hunter Semillon, from the property established by the father of Australian viticulture, James Busby, in the 1830s. Very aromatic with key lime, a creamy palatte of sherbert, and a finish of Bartlett pear.

Ben Haines Amber
2022 Bayindeen, Victoria.
Semillon, roussanne and aged marsanne skin contact white wine, or ask Ben calls it, an Amber. Complex aromas, high acidity, and a strong Assue grip of white wine tannins. Low alcohol for easy drinking.

Paxton N.O.W. Shiraz
2021 McLaren Vale, South Australia.
Organically grown on a family estate, bottled with no additional sulfites.  This is as near an Aussie natural wine without being 'funky'. Maintains the bold, juicy, and peppery Shiraz style. Drink young.

Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir
2018 Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.
One of our February wine club features.  Extraordinary Bugundian insipured wines from a family owned estate vinearyds first planted in 1982. This is a cool coastal region, lending to a more elegant and ageworthy style. Dark cherry, orange, incense, autumn spice flavors.

Howard Park Miamup Cabernet Sauvignon
2016 Margaret River, Western Australia.
A great introduction to the smooth, spiced style of Aussie cabernets, especially from the Western region of Margaret River. We grabbed this one becauae the 2016 was too good to pass up at this price.

Vasse Felix Filius Cabernet Sauvignon
2020 Margaret River, Western Australia.
Vasse Felix is the founding winery of Margaret River, named for a ship that ran aground a century before. Founder Dr. Tom Cullity fell in love with the area and with help of renouwned viticultirists, identified the region as prime Cabernet terrority. Filius is the entry level wine of the estate.

Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon
2019 Margaret River, Western Australia.
The original Cabernet of Margaret River, and a marvel of purity, class and elegant style. The bright fruits are married with smooth and sweet oak tannins, and that classic Margaret River spice that I think of as 'mesquite'. A region defining Cabernet for under $50? That is always worth exploring.
