Hello, I'm Ryan Crosbie. Nice to meet you. I'm a wine cellar advisor with 20 years of experience, first in winemaking and then fine wine sales. I studied economics and winemaking in university and got advanced certifications in wine and viticulture. I've worked at some of the best wine companies in America, selling to some of the biggest and brightest wine collectors.
Now I help wine lovers manage and enjoy one of life's greatest treasures - their wine cellars - without selling any bottles or cases. I love going full circle from wine making to wine selling to wine opening!

The Five Stages of Wine Collecting
Over time we collectors go through stages which impact how we think about and use our cellars.
Just being aware of the stages helps determine where we are in our collecting journeys and what exactly our expectations should be during those periods.
Here is an abbreviated version to help you gain perspective on where you are right now. Which ones apply to you? It's certainly possible to be in more than one stage at a time.
1. Exploration. Collectors are learning what they like, trying many new wines, with an endless curiosity. Wine is accompanied by education, new habits and new friends.
2. Accumulation. Buying more wine than you can drink immediately, enthusiasm for your new passion is overwhelming, budgeting and storage are new pursuits.
3. Maturation. The cellar becomes full of aging wines, when collectors open bottles with anticipation, and where things might get a little crowded and disorganized.
4. Enjoyment. The cellar becomes more intentional, collectors open wines with confidence, purchases and re-orders are refined. This is where the magic happens.
5. Depletion. The collection gets smaller through consumption, giving away, or selling, where a planned off-ramp becomes key for maintaining simplicity or building legacy.
In my decades of wine collecting and helping wine collectors, getting stuck between Stages 3, 4 and 5 is where the pleasure of wine collecting can turn into a pain.
There is a real opportunity to take a step back, reevaluate, and start enjoying your wine collection.
