One of the biggest issues faced by wine collectors isn't wine knowledge, storage space, or price of wine.
It's TIME.
The time to organize, understand, and then ENJOY the collections they've worked hard to build.
You've put years, or decades, into your cellar. I can help you design the time and the occasions to enjoy it.
A wine cellar advisor can make a significant difference - both personally and financially - by sharing the experience of working with hundreds of other wine collectors and how best to manage a cellar for success.
Is your wine collection ... collecting dust?
Most wine cellars sit idle, dormant, and forgotten for far too long. Decades of a passionate pursuit, suddenly feels overwhelming and even burdensome.
Do you ever find yourself in these common wine collecting situations? You've:
over bought on key vintages that still need years to mature
joined a few too many wine clubs and are lacking real variety
realized yet again you are full of aging reds and always out of fresh whites or roses
ordered wine without ever trying it or knowing you'll like it
filled a storage closet, or two, with wines without a plan to open them
bought wine from a source that seems trustworthy, but doesn't know your palate
These things happen to all wine collectors, even with the best intentions.
So before you let your wine turn into a museum, do something about it!
What lies within all those years of sacrifice and patience is a reward that is delightfully enjoyable and uniquely yours.
Whether you have been collecting for 4 years or 40, now is not the time to let a good thing go to waste.
Get back on track of your wine collection with intentional planning, buying, storing, and opening of wine.
UNDERSTANDING WHERE YOU ARE
The Five Stages of Wine Collecting
Over time we collectors go through stages which impact how we think about and use our cellars.
Just being aware of the stages helps determine where we are in our collecting journeys and what exactly our expectations should be during those periods.
Here is an abbreviated version to help you gain perspective on where you are right now. Which ones apply to you? It's certainly possible to be in more than one stage at a time.
1. Exploration. Collectors are learning what they like, trying many new wines, with an endless curiosity. Wine is accompanied by education, new habits and new friends.
2. Accumulation. Buying more wine than you can drink immediately, enthusiasm for your new passion is overwhelming, budgeting and storage are new pursuits.
3. Maturation. The cellar becomes full of aging wines, when collectors open bottles with anticipation, and where things might get a little crowded and disorganized.
4. Enjoyment. The cellar becomes more intentional, collectors open wines with confidence, purchases and re-orders are refined. This is where the magic happens.
5. Depletion. The collection gets smaller through consumption, giving away, or selling, where a planned off-ramp becomes key for maintaining simplicity or building legacy.
In my decades of wine collecting and helping wine collectors, getting stuck between Stages 3, 4 and 5 is where the pleasure of wine collecting can turn into a pain.
There is a real opportunity to take a step, reevaluate and start enjoying your wine collection.
It's your wine collection. Have fun with it!
