Tasting this Weekend

Australian Wine Tasting and Wine club pickup

We can't wait to share what's trending down in Oz and introduce you to some exciting wines!  Australia understands the global wine customer better than anyone (2/3 of their wine gets exported) and is actually ahead of the curve in many regards, including sustainability and adapting to climate change, honoring their First Nations, adopting new packaging and offering new styles to match consumer tastes.

If you forgot that Aussie wines even existed, fill that blank space on your calendar, don your favorite cardigan, and come explore seven great wines including Semillon, Riesling, Grenache, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and sweet Muscat. There's a perfect wine for every wine lover during this forever winter. You just might have to compete with Emma for the Semillon, because when Emma falls in love with something, she starts buying it all up.

Wines

Kirkton Estate ‘The William’ Semillon.  The original Hunter Valley Semillon! From the estate of the “Father of the Australian Wine Industry”, James Bisby in Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Youthful and bright key lime citrus, sherbert creaminess and Bartlett pear pome fruit on the finish. These wines are known for very long aging potential, too.

Best’s Great Western Riesling.  Another age-worthy white, Bests's Riesling from the central Victoria region of Gramians, formerly Great Western.  Original vines planted in 1866, and still owned and operated by the original family. This wine shows honeysuckle, petrol, and has a characteristic Rielsing forever finish

Best’s Great Western Shiraz.  Early planters of Austrialias future king of grape.  Their versions are concentrated with pepper spice and soft tannins from extrended barrel aging... some casks are 100y/o. Deliciously aromatic and medium-bodied, unlike some of their more well known counterparts.

R.L. Buller Premium Fine Muscat.  Non-vintage Rutherglen Muscat from Victoria, barrel aged in a Solera system. . Fortified on skins and then left on skins for 5 days. It is then pressed off and stabilised for heat and cold. Rum raisin, dried apricot, coffee.

** Club Feature Thistledown Old Vine ‘Thorny Devil’ Grenache.  Grapes dry grown and from old vines for a spiced, fruity, balanced grenache with the classic perfumey aromatics of McLaren Vale.

Moorooduc Estate Pinot Noir.  A youthful and deeply flavorful pinot with a strong tannic structure. Opens up beautifully in the glass and will age well.

Greenock Creek Vineyards Shiraz.  From vineyards with eight 100 point wines, comes this stunning shiraz, with high fruit content, tannins and acidity to balance.

R.L. Buller & Son Premium Fine Muscat.  Also from Victoria, hand picked grapes from non-irrigated vineyards. Flavor extracted from grape skins without tannins.
